Growing up in an orphanage completely opened up mind on the importance of taking care of the disabilities. In my 16 years of experience living in Vinashini Home, truly get to know people with disabilities from diverse backgrounds and studying the types of disabilities was among some best. First, I stepped into Vinashini Home at the age of 8 and in the year 2003. This place certainly has provided me with a positive exposure and a wonderful journey. Mingling with the special needs, sharing emotions and happiness has truly made me into extraordinary days. As a child and a student made me continue the pleasant journey with the special needs. Upon completion of my SPM Examination, I enrolled for a Diploma in Mass Communication. During my Diploma days, I stand myself with the spirit ‘ I Can Do ‘ and stepped forward to assist them in many ways. Educate the young and teenagers from higher learning institutions, organising and conducting events has guided me to explore deeper on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Balancing the time and my studying was not big deal as I performed well in my studies and community work. Currently, I’m pursuing my undergraduate Degree in Professional Communication at the International University of Malaya-Wales and I’m happy that I’m applying my education knowledge to share and assist them in many positive angles. As we’re in the technology world, the gadgets and the internet has taken over the youths as it is causing a disaster and space which is to repudiate the young minds to get involved in volunteering.
Based on my personal observations, youths and adults who are fewer participate in volunteering are due to less exposure and experience. The youths and adults should play an important role in volunteering as they will be educating the young generations in the coming future. Volunteering must be practised when we were young, as what I learned when I was young too. Here, the parents should play a significant role in educating the young. Throughout my journey at Vinashini Home, until today, I’m being an independent learner. I don’t regret the things I missed during my childhood days, but im happy with what I have right now and what I’m offering for the community. Hope, my journey will continue here with the love and unconditional support. Let us stand for people with disabilities for their better future. Let us make a huge difference 🙂
