Do you know that PPR stands for Projek Perumahan Rakyat? PPR is a low cost government flat that often resides by lower income group. The rental for one unit is only RM124.
One of the programs that I have been working on monthly for the PPR community is the PRUkasih program. A free protection plan for the community to cope with a sudden loss of income due to illness, accidents & death.
Despite the benefits of the program, many times I got shut off by some residents as they thought I am an insurance agent trying to sell them the plan. However, this does not stop me from spreading the awareness about importance of financial planning to the community.
Everyday, I learn so much from the community by befriending them. Through making random conversation with the cleaners, makciks who I always met at the lift area, business owners at the warong, I learnt about their life stories/plight. From there, I extend my service as a social worker through giving out shopping aid, getting those who eligible to sign up for the free protection plan, giving advises and referrals to other NGOs etc.
There are moments when some of the beneficiaries were being so grateful for the help given, they thanked you whole heartily. One of the beneficiaries even pointed out they remembered me and my team from 2 years ago for aiding her at her most vulnerable moment (when I could not recall her).
My heart feels so full.
