Building a strong functioning team is important, especially for a charity organisation so that the team could serve the people in need under their various charity programs. This is where Great Heart’s 2019 Team Building session plays a major role in helping to cultivate team spirit amongst the organisation’s committee members, volunteers, and staffs through a 2 days’ session filled with various activities aimed at imparting the particpants with important concepts for a team to thrive.
Held at Radiant Retreats, Janda Baik, 37 members participated in the sixth edition team building session where they were divided into 5 teams. Each team were tasked to take care of one GHCA’s paper mascot doll, Heart Heart throughout the session while going through various fun team challenges. This was aimed at getting the team members to work together to look after someone especially the less-abled, a trait that is important for any charity organisation.
Among the challenges are a river trekking session, where team members are each given an egg to protect in addition to the team’s Heart Heart paper doll. These was followed by a session to dress their selected King and Queen using dry leaves, tree barks, and other natural materials which is aimed at testing the resourcefulness of each team.
The participants were also tested on their teamwork communication skills, and strategic planning skills, three important traits for a team to succeed, via some indoor and outdoor games that saw the participants going through rounds of archery, mini-golf, and paint ball shooting.
Our highlight challenge of the session comes in the form of a “Wilderness Master Chef”, with each team being tasked to cook their interpretation of curry chicken, roti jala, and a dessert, all using a charcoal oven that they have to light up themselves as well as limited cooking utensils. Although many have self-doubt when first being tasked with the challenge, teamwork and positivity do wonders for all five teams when all successfully completed the task at hand and manage to cook a mouth-watering 3-course meal!
The memorable 2 days’ team building session not only provided participants with an insight on how a successful team works, but also renewed the team bonding among them so that they could communicate and cooperate with each other much better than before. Thank you to all members and volunteers who participated in this year’s session and hoping to see you again at next year’s team building edition!
